They all agreed that ultimately it is Congress - not the President - that can enact long-term legislative solutions to our nation's most pressing problems. The President heard the concerns of the CHC and committed to working with the CHC as he finalizes the administrative actions he will take in the next few weeks. They commended the President for working with the CHC since 2008 to find a bipartisan solution to fix our broken immigration system and expressed their joint frustration with the refusal by House Republicans to move constructively on the bipartisan legislation passed by the Senate. The Caucus encouraged the President to use existing authorities to ensure children are receiving hearings quickly without denying due process.ĬHC Members also urged the President to be bold in his use of prosecutorial discretion. CHC Members reaffirmed their opposition to any changes to the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act that would roll back due process protections for children from Central America. They also voiced their support for the supplemental request the President presented to Congress and on the need to act swiftly on this funding.
